Tiger Oscar

Astronotus ocellatus

$50

Each. GST included.

These beautiful Tiger Oscars (black and red/orange) are an amazing species to handle and care for, hence the nickname Water Puppies. They will pack a tantrum and sulk in the corner of the tank, then turn around and be the big Tank Boss again. At 4cm and gradually growing they will need that bigger tank further down the line, but that is all the beauty of watching the full potential of these stunning fish evolve.

Blood Parrot

Amphilophus citrinellus hybrid

$110

Each. GST included.

Round bodied, bright orange, and one of the most interactive fish you can keep. They learn who feeds them and they will come to the front of the glass for it. A hybrid rather than a wild species, first bred in Taiwan in the 1980s, and the beak shaped mouth that comes with that cannot close all the way. It makes them far less able to do damage than most Central American cichlids, which is why they get on with more tank mates than you would expect.

Bumblebee Cichlid

Pseudotropheus crabro

$10

Each. GST included.

A Lake Malawi mbuna, yellow through the body with dark bars across it. Also called the hornet cichlid, and the scientific name means wasp, which tells you most of what you need to know about the look. Mature males often darken right down to a deep brown or nearly black, so a tank of them does not stay the same colour year round.

Each. GST included.

A gold colour morph of the banded severum, bred in the hobby rather than taken out of a river. Deep golden yellow through the body with red speckling that comes up as they mature, and a much calmer fish than most cichlids that get to this size.
