About this fish
The red discus (Symphysodon discus), also known as the Heckel discus, is a striking species of freshwater cichlid endemic to the blackwater habitats of the Amazon Basin in Brazil. Renowned as the "king of the aquarium", captive-bred and wild colour variants of red discus are highly prized by hobbyists for their vibrant crimson tones, elegant rounded shapes, and complex patterning.
Reaches an average adult diameter or length of 15 to 20 cm (6 to 8 inches). Peaceful, social, and shoaling; they form strong social hierarchies and should be kept in groups of 5 or more.

Keeping them well
Stable water matters more than perfect water. A well cycled tank and regular changes count for far more than chasing numbers on a test kit. Give them somewhere to get out of the light, feed a decent varied diet, and they will do the rest themselves.
